Volunteer at First Church
VOLUNTEER ON THE WEEKEND:
Attendance Pad Sorters and Delivery of Welcome Packets
Volunteers are needed to pull the attendance registration slips from the two morning worship services, to identify first-time visitors from those attendance slips, and to take a welcome gift from the church to first-time visitors.
Heart Warmers
When someone joins the church at one of the Sunday worship services, a Heart Warmer comes and stands beside them at the altar rail to welcome them into the church and shepherd them through the process that follows. This includes accompanying them to the office to fill out membership forms and securing a photo of the new member.
Acolyte Ministry
A ministry opportunity for children who are trained in the meaning of worship, and bring the light of Christ into the sanctuary each Sunday. If you are interested in serving as an acolyte please contact Sandra Loy at 225-383-4777 or sandra@firstmethodist.org.
Communion Stewards
Trained lay-communion stewards assist the clergy with the serving of Communion at the Sunday morning services, helping to ensure that the service of Holy Communion is a sacred and special moment for each worshipper.
Communion Sunday Prayer Intercessors
Trained lay-people are available in the sanctuary during Sunday morning Communion Service to offer private, intercessory prayer for members of the congregation. If you are interested in serving as a prayer intercessor please contact Cherri Johnson at 225-383-4777 or cherri@firstmethodist.org .
Crucifer
The crucifer carries the cross into the sanctuary during the opening hymn of the Sunday morning worship services, playing an important role in setting the tone and the focus for worship. If you are interested in serving as a crucifer please contact Sandra Loy at 225-383-4777 or sandra@firstmethodist.org.
Hospitality Room
Hosts for the Hospitality Room offer coffee and refreshments each Sunday morning in the narthex of the sanctuary. Volunteers help greet and welcome visitors, answer questions, and help them find their way around the church.
VOLUNTEER DURING THE WEEK:
Newsletter Helpers
Every other Tuesday morning a group of volunteers is needed to help sort and label our bi-weekly newsletter that is mailed that week. A volunteer is also needed on every other Thursday morning to help print the newsletter.
Worship Services at Retirement and Nursing Homes
Worship services are held regularly at The Haven and at Williamsburg so that individuals who cannot physically attend their church home are able to be part of a worshipping community of faith. Volunteers can assist in these services in a variety of ways: singing/leading music, reading scripture, greeting, etc. If you would like to serve in this way please contact Rev. Brad Franklin at 225-383-4777 or brad@firstmethodist.org .
